Planning a Destination Wedding in Turks and Caicos

A Caribbean destination wedding is the dream of many happy couples. What could be better than an idyllic wedding on a beautiful beach, surrounded by close family and friends?

If this sounds like a dream come true, your next decision is where to get married in the Caribbean. The larger islands such as Barbados, the Bahamas, and U.S. Virgin Islands are always popular, but if you want an intimate wedding and a romantic honeymoon away from the crowds of cruise ships, Turks and Caicos is a great choice.

Why Marry in the Turks and Caicos?

For starters, the scenery is stunning. Grace Bay on Providenciales is regularly voted the #1 beach in the world, and when you visit this beautiful stretch of pink-white sand, you’ll understand why. This is where several of the island’s top resort hotels are located, and most of them offer a wedding package.

Secondly, the Turks and Caicos are much quieter than most of the more popular Caribbean islands, so you won’t have to fight for space on the beach or in local eateries. Only eight of the 40 or so islands and cays are populated, so there are plenty of places you can go if you want some privacy after your wedding.

The Legal Side of Getting Married on the Turks and Caicos

There are some legal requirements for getting married in Turks and Caicos, and you should definitely check them out before you start making arrangements for a wedding. For example, you have establish residency before you can apply for a marriage license on island, and it takes 24 hours to establish residency. Many couples decide to hire a wedding planner, as they will guide you through the process.

Book Accommodation

Next, decide which island you want to stay on. Providenciales is the most popular, as this is where many of the main hotels are located. You can also stay on Grand Turk or one of the smaller islands if you want more privacy. Don’t assume you need to book a hotel, there are many lovely Turks and Caicos Villas that are perfect for accommodating wedding guests. Some villas will even offer to host your wedding onsite! Turks and Caicos Villa Rentals are a much better choice if you are taking kids along for the wedding, because villas give you more control and security. You’ll also benefit from the extra room and a more relaxed vibe.

Choosing Island Vendors

Once you have the legalities and accommodations sorted, start thinking about the details. Flowers, music, catering, and cakes are the easiest way to personalize the day. It’s usually easier to ask your wedding planner to help you out with this, as they have local contacts and can negotiate better prices.

Enjoy your wedding on Turks and Caicos, and don’t forget to take some awesome photos!
